Duration: 1 day, typically 9.30am to 4.45pm but can be flexible to fit into shift
patterns of staff
Key Objectives:
At the end of the Assertiveness at Work training course, participants will be able
to: -
- Understand what communication actually is and the benefits of improved communication
skills.
- Be able to match communication methods to the content of the communication.
- Appreciate own personal communication style in business dealings with others.
- Appreciate the concept of the ‘internal customer’ and understand their expectations.
- Understand how to create an impact with others.
- Know the differences between assertive, aggressive and passive behaviours.
- Practice the 3 steps to assertive behaviour to encourage others to ‘give of their
best’ producing workable compromises.
- Understand how to develop and maintain rapport through body language and positive
words/phrases.
- Demonstrate active listening skills.
- Understand, and be able to apply, a range of influencing techniques.
- Deal confidently with a range of situations at work requiring a degree of assertiveness
and influence to promote a ‘win-win’ situation.
Training Course Overview:
- Business interactions with others occur almost every minute of the working day. They
are all situations in which there is an ‘outcome’ – something gets done, either for
you, for the other person(s), or it is mutually beneficial for both. However it
is not just WHAT is achieved, it’s HOW you achieve it – how you approach the situation,
what words you use, what body language you exhibit, how you influence or persuade
the person.
- The aim of the Assertiveness at Work training course is for participants to appreciate
the role of assertiveness in building relationships at work with a range of internal
and external customers. It covers a range of tips, tactics and processes to help
the individual adjust their style to promote more ‘win-win’ outcomes.
- A variety of training methods are used on the training course, including syndicate
and group discussion, exercises, demonstrations and ‘mini skill practice’. A mini
exhibition of communication skill books, additional handouts and ‘hints and tips’
sheets will be provided in the training room, for delegates to visit during breaks.
- A feature of the Assertiveness at Work training course is the use of a Knowledge/Skill
Checklist - a list of the knowledge and skills being developed. The participant self-rates
at the start and finish of the day, to establish the extent to which they have benefited
from the training course. This also gives them, and their line manager, further analysis
of their strengths, highlighting any further development needs.
- Delegates will be supplied with full support documentation, supplied in spiral bound
format.
- A mini exhibition of interpersonal skill books, additional handouts and ‘hints and
tips’ sheets will be provided in the training room, for delegates to visit during
‘down-time’ e.g. at breaks; finishing an exercise before others.
- Prior to delivery of the Assertiveness at Work training course, we would host a telephone
meeting with you to establish the nature of the delegate’s roles, their strengths
and development areas and any areas of the training course you would like us to emphasise.
